Furniture care is a natural part of living with materials such as wood, fabric, and leather. By regularly caring for these materials, you not only protect the surfaces from wear and spills, but also allow the materials to age beautifully and naturally. Since many of the finishes are open and allow the wood to “breathe,” care becomes part of the furniture’s life cycle. With continuous care, they develop a beautiful patina over time.

Norrgavel works with finishes that highlight the materials’ natural properties, where each choice offers a unique look and requires its own maintenance routine.

Oil: Oiled surfaces provide depth, luster, and highlight the wood’s grain. The surface is durable and relatively low-maintenance, but needs to be re-oiled as needed to maintain its protection and appearance.

Soap: Soaped surfaces provide a light, matte, and natural feel. Protection builds up over time through regular soap maintenance, making upkeep part of the look.

Tempera: Egg-oil tempera creates a completely matte, vibrant surface where the color interacts with light and develops a beautiful patina over time.

Varnish: Varnished surfaces create a more sealed and durable finish on top of the wood, providing extra protection against spills and wear, as well as a more uniform and modern look.

Leather: Leather is a living material that needs to be moisturized and protected regularly to maintain its suppleness and develop a beautiful patina without drying out.
